Kochi, Kerala, INDIA: A young couple employed with the State Bank of India and scheduled to marry later this year were found dead in separate states within hours of each other, prompting police investigations in Kerala and Karnataka.

The deceased have been identified as P Anushree, 25, a native of Poochakkad in Kasaragod district, and her fiancé V Amal, 26, from Iritty in Kannur district. The couple had reportedly got engaged around two months ago and were preparing for their wedding on December 26.

Anushree was employed at an SBI branch in Karnataka and was staying at Hunsur, while Amal worked at the bank's MG Road branch in Ernakulam.

According to reports, Anushree had attended work until Tuesday August 11 and later spoke to Amal over the phone. Her family became concerned the following morning when she failed to answer repeated calls.

Family members subsequently contacted people near her residence in Hunsur and asked them to check on her. Anushree was then found dead at her accommodation.

Hunsur police conducted an inquest and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. Her body was later brought to her native place in Kasaragod, where the funeral was held on Wednesday August 12 evening.

Meanwhile, Amal is believed to have learnt about Anushree's death on Wednesday morning. Police said he subsequently checked into a hotel near the Ernakulam North railway station at around 8.45 am.

Amal reportedly shared his location with friends but later stopped responding to their calls. Concerned over his silence, his friends went to the hotel to check on him and found him dead inside the room.

Ernakulam North police reached the spot and conducted an inquest before shifting his body to the General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Police suspect that Amal may have died by suicide after learning about his fiancée's death. However, investigators said no suicide note was recovered, and the exact circumstances leading to the deaths have not yet been established.

The circumstances surrounding Anushree's death are also under investigation. Police have cautioned that conclusions can be drawn only after the post-mortem findings and other evidence are examined.

Investigators are expected to examine the mobile phones of both Anushree and Amal, including their recent communications, as part of efforts to reconstruct the events preceding their deaths.

With the couple only months away from their wedding, the deaths have left their families and acquaintances in shock. Police investigations in both states are continuing to establish what happened and whether there was any connection beyond the sequence in which the two deaths occurred.
