Pune, Maharashtra, INDIA: A 27-year-old man from Beed district allegedly murdered his 22-year-old girlfriend before dying by suicide in Pune, police said on Sunday November 30. The incident is believed to have occurred between 11 am on Saturday November 29 and 7:15 am on Sunday November 30 in the Sangamwadi area.
The deceased have been identified as Ganesh Kale (27), a native of Ashok Nagar in Beed and currently residing in Sangamwadi, and Divya Nigot (22), a nurse at Ruby Hall Clinic Hospital, Pune. Kale worked as an MRI/lab technician at the same hospital.
Divya’s family had filed a missing person complaint after she failed to return home. During the search, police discovered her body inside Kale’s rented accommodation in Sangamwadi. Kale’s body was later found near the Talegaon railway tracks, indicating he died by suicide shortly after committing the murder.
According to investigators, Divya had visible injury marks on her nose and face, pointing to an assault prior to her death. Police suspect that a personal dispute, possibly linked to Kale’s marriage proposal being rejected and Divya’s marriage being fixed with another man, may have triggered the crime.
“Prima facie, it appears that the accused was upset after the woman refused his marriage proposal. Her family had reportedly arranged her marriage elsewhere, which might have led him to kill her and then take his own life,” said an officer from Yerwada Police Station.
Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Police are examining call detail records, CCTV footage, and statements from colleagues and relatives to establish the exact sequence of events and confirm the motive.
A case has been registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Yerwada Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
