Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA: An 83-year-old man was shot dead by his son in Nurpur village of Hapur district following a heated dispute over agricultural land.
The accused, identified as Ajit, who has a history of criminal cases against him, allegedly opened fire on his father, Rammehar Singh, on the evening of August 22 after an argument over 17 bighas of farmland.
According to police, Rammehar wanted to lease out the land, while Ajit was strongly opposed. The quarrel escalated, and Ajit reportedly shot his father twice before fleeing the spot.
The victim’s daughter-in-law lodged a complaint against Ajit, who is currently absconding. Police have announced a reward of ₹20,000 for information leading to his arrest.
“Ajit is a dangerous criminal and wanted in several serious cases, including murder, across different districts. Raids are being carried out at multiple locations, and adjoining districts have been alerted,” said a senior police officer.
Authorities have urged the public to share any information about Ajit’s whereabouts, assuring that the identity of informants will remain confidential.
The brutal incident has left residents of Nurpur and nearby villages in shock and fear, while police continue their search to apprehend the accused.
