Mahbubnagar, Telangana, INDIA: A man in Telangana’s Mahbubnagar district has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody for the brutal murder of his wife, whom he allegedly killed by slitting her throat and setting her body on fire after suspecting her of infidelity.

The victim has been identified as Sravani, a resident of Mahbubnagar. She had married Srisailam, a native of Kotharayavaram village in Nagarkurnool district’s Lingala Mandal, in a love marriage about ten years ago. The couple has a son and a daughter.

According to police, Srisailam’s behavior became increasingly erratic over the years. Convinced—without evidence—that his wife was having an illicit affair, he allegedly subjected her to repeated harassment. Unable to bear the abuse, Sravani lodged a complaint against him three years ago and began living separately with her children.

Despite moving to Hyderabad, Srisailam reportedly renewed contact with his wife over the past year. On August 21, he convinced her to join him on a trip to Somasila in Andhra Pradesh, claiming he had changed. Trusting him, Sravani agreed and accompanied him on his bike.

Instead, Srisailam took her to the remote Satapur forest area, where he allegedly slit her throat, doused her body in petrol, and set it ablaze. He had purchased the knife in Hyderabad and petrol in Mahbubnagar, police said. After committing the crime, he went to his native village in Lingala Mandal and surrendered to the police.

The murder came to light after Sravani’s father filed a missing person complaint on August 23. Subsequent investigation and the accused’s confession confirmed the crime.

Mahbubnagar Two Town Circle Inspector Ejazuddin said the accused has been remanded to judicial custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
