Man throws petrol bomb at woman’s home after she rejects marriage proposal, threatens fiancé

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, INDIA: A man allegedly hurled a petrol bomb into the home of a 24-year-old woman in Bhopal after she rejected his marriage proposal, setting household items on fire and also threatening to kill her fiancé, police said.

The incident took place in the Banganga area under the jurisdiction of TT Nagar police station. The accused, identified as Arbaz alias Bhaiyu, is absconding and police have launched a search for him.

According to police, the woman had come into contact with Arbaz through Instagram. He later proposed marriage, but she rejected him. After her marriage was fixed with another man, Arbaz allegedly began pressuring her to marry him and repeatedly followed and threatened her.

Police said that on the morning of the incident, Arbaz went to the woman’s house and allegedly threatened to kill her if she refused to marry him. When she told him that she was already engaged, he allegedly abused her and threatened to kill her fiancé as well.

The woman alerted police through Dial 112, following which a police team reached her residence. Arbaz allegedly fled before the officers arrived but continued threatening and abusing her over the phone.

Around 5 pm the same day, the accused allegedly returned while the woman was standing outside her house with her sister-in-law. Police said he again asked her to marry him, but she refused.

Following the rejection, Arbaz allegedly picked up a stone and damaged her two-wheeler parked outside the house. When the woman attempted to intervene, he allegedly hurled a petrol-filled incendiary bottle inside the house and fled.

The bottle landed in the kitchen and started a fire, damaging refrigerators and other household belongings. Neighbours rushed to the spot and helped control the flames. Police and fire brigade personnel also reached the scene after being alerted. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Based on the woman's complaint, TT Nagar police registered a case against Arbaz and began searching for him.

TT Nagar SHO Gaurav Singh said the accused is a habitual offender from the Gautam Nagar area and is wanted in connection with 38 criminal cases. Police said further investigation is underway.
