Man arrested over killing girlfriend in hotel

Guwahati, Assam, INDIA: A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 23-year-old woman inside a hotel room near Rangia railway station in Assam’s Kamrup Rural district, police said.

The victim, identified as Malini Guriya of Hugrajuli in Sonitpur district, was found dead with multiple injuries inside the hotel room. Police said a pair of scissors and an electrical tester were allegedly used in the attack.

The accused, Abhijit Kindo, a resident of Udalguri district, was detained from the hotel and later arrested after police registered a murder case.

According to police, Kindo allegedly admitted to killing Guriya and claimed that he had planned the attack before meeting her as he suspected that she was involved with other men. Investigators, however, said the exact motive behind the killing is yet to be established.

Police said Guriya had arrived in Rangia from Chennai the previous night along with two women. Kindo had reportedly gone to Rangia railway station to receive them.

The group later checked into a hotel near the railway station. According to statements given to investigators by Guriya’s companions, Kindo initially booked a separate room but later went to Guriya’s room and remained there during the night.

The incident came to light early the next morning after a railway inspector in Rangia received information about the suspected killing and alerted police.

A police team rushed to the hotel and found Guriya dead inside the room. Kindo was also found at the hotel and taken into custody.

Police said the accused had sustained several injuries in an alleged attempt to take his own life following the killing. He was subsequently taken to a government hospital for medical treatment.

Sources said Kindo had allegedly contacted Guriya’s friends after the attack, telling them that he had killed her and intended to take his own life.

Police said preliminary investigation indicated that Guriya was attacked with scissors and an electrical tester. A forensic team from Guwahati examined the hotel room and collected evidence as part of the investigation.

The victim’s body was sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination, and her family was informed about her death.

Police have registered a murder case against Kindo and said further investigation is underway to reconstruct the sequence of events and establish the motive behind the killing.
