Woman, lover held for poisoning husband in pre-planned murder plot

Jaipur, Rajasthan, INDIA: A 23-year-old woman and her lover have been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband by poisoning his juice as part of a pre-planned conspiracy in Jaipur, police said.

The victim, identified as Mahesh Meena, 27, died on August 5 after allegedly consuming the poisoned drink. Police have arrested his wife, Kavita Meena, 23, and her alleged Ganesh Meena, 27, in connection with the killing.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Jaipur West) Prashant Kiran, Kavita allegedly took Mahesh out on a motorcycle on August 5 on the pretext of getting medicines.

Instead, she allegedly took him towards Nainath Dham, where she met Ganesh. Police said the two had allegedly conspired in advance to kill Mahesh.

During the journey, Kavita and Ganesh allegedly mixed poison into a glass of juice and gave it to Mahesh. Soon after consuming the drink, his health began to deteriorate, police said.

Kavita then allegedly took the ailing Mahesh on the motorcycle towards Road No. 14 and contacted his brother, Manish, telling him that Mahesh had suddenly fallen ill and asking him to come to the spot.

Mahesh was subsequently rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police suspect the accused attempted to make the death appear to have been caused by an illness rather than poisoning. However, Mahesh's family reportedly grew suspicious about the circumstances surrounding his sudden death and approached the police, raising doubts over Kavita's role.

Considering the seriousness of the allegations, police constituted a special investigation team.

During the investigation, officers examined CCTV footage from areas through which the accused and the victim had travelled, collected other evidence and questioned the suspects.

Police said the evidence gathered during the investigation pointed towards an alleged pre-planned conspiracy involving Kavita and Ganesh.

Both were subsequently arrested and are being questioned to establish the complete sequence of events, including the motive behind the alleged murder and how the poison was procured.

Further investigation is underway.
