Man sets girlfriend ablaze, arrested

Palnadu, Andhra Pradesh, INDIA: A young woman was allegedly stabbed to death and her body set on fire following a dispute with her boyfriend in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Bala Saidulu, in connection with the killing.

The victim, Haseena, was a resident of Chilakaluripeta. According to police, she became acquainted with Saidulu, a resident of Inuparajupalli village in Karampudi mandal, through Instagram while she was pursuing a B.Tech degree at a private engineering college in Guntur.

The two reportedly remained in a relationship for nearly five years. After completing her studies, Haseena secured a job with a private company in Sullurupeta. Saidulu, meanwhile, returned to his native village and took up agricultural work.

Police said problems allegedly developed in their relationship after Haseena began working. Saidulu reportedly became suspicious when communication between them became less frequent and allegedly suspected that she was in contact with other men.

According to investigators, Saidulu called Haseena and asked her to meet him near Chintapalli in Karampudi mandal on Friday August 7 to discuss their relationship.

Police allege that an argument broke out between the two during the meeting. As the dispute escalated, Saidulu allegedly attacked Haseena with a knife, causing fatal injuries.

Police further allege that Saidulu then attempted to destroy evidence by pouring petrol over Haseena’s body and setting it on fire before leaving the scene.

When Haseena failed to return home, her worried family approached Chilakaluripeta police and lodged a missing-person complaint.

Around the same time, Karampudi police received information about a partially burnt body found near the Nagarjuna Sagar canal bund. Police reached the spot, recovered the remains and sent them for a post-mortem examination.

During the subsequent investigation, the deceased was identified as Haseena.

Police then intensified their inquiry and detained Saidulu for questioning. Investigators claimed that he admitted his involvement in the crime during interrogation.

Saidulu was subsequently arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

Police said further investigation is underway to establish the precise motive, reconstruct the complete sequence of events and collect additional evidence connected to the killing.
