Dahod, Gujarat, INDIA: A 35-year-old man allegedly beat his 70-year-old father to death with a wooden stick in Gujarat's Dahod district after blaming his elderly parents for the breakdown of his marriage, police said.

The accused, identified as Babubhai Pargi, was arrested after allegedly attacking his father, Valabhai Pargi, during a heated argument at their home in Fatehpura.

According to the preliminary police investigation, Babubhai had married around 10 years ago but later developed a severe alcohol addiction. Police said he frequently returned home intoxicated, verbally abused and physically assaulted his wife. Unable to endure the repeated abuse, she left the matrimonial home about five years ago and severed all ties with him.

Investigators said that instead of taking responsibility for his behaviour, Babubhai began blaming his elderly parents for the collapse of his marriage. Whenever he returned to the village from work, he allegedly harassed and abused them, accusing them of driving his wife away.

On the day of the incident, another argument reportedly broke out over the same issue. As the confrontation escalated, Babubhai allegedly picked up a heavy wooden stick and struck his father on the back of the head. The elderly man suffered critical head injuries and collapsed.

Family members and villagers rushed Valabhai Pargi to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Following the incident, the victim's younger son, Kaljibhai Pargi, lodged a complaint against his brother at Fatehpura Police Station.

Police registered a case of murder against Babubhai Pargi under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused, who had initially fled after the attack, was later traced, arrested and produced before a court.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
