Barpeta, Assam, INDIA: Barpeta Police have solved the murder of a young man within 24 hours of the crime, arresting three accused allegedly involved in the fatal assault in the Gayanhati area of Barpeta town.
The arrested accused have been identified as Samiran Gayan, Gonen Das and Jitul Bhuyan. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Samiran Baishya.
According to police, the victim, Bipul Gayan, was found dead near his residence on Sunday June 14 night, triggering panic and concern among local residents. Preliminary investigations indicated that he had been brutally assaulted before being left at the spot.
Addressing a press conference, ASP (Crime) Samiran Baishya said the murder was allegedly the outcome of a dispute that arose during a drinking session. During interrogation, the three accused reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime.
Police investigations revealed that the accused had been consuming liquor at the residence of Samiran Gayan before the incident. After leaving the house, they allegedly confronted Bipul Gayan, who was standing outside his home, and attacked him repeatedly with wooden sticks, causing fatal injuries.
Investigators further stated that the victim and the accused were neighbours residing in close proximity to each other in the Gayanhati locality.
Following the discovery of the body, Barpeta Police launched an intensive investigation and conducted a series of raids, leading to the arrest of all three suspects within a day of the crime.
The swift breakthrough has been hailed as a significant achievement by the district police. Authorities said further investigation is underway to establish all aspects of the case and complete the necessary legal procedures.
