Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: In a shocking triple murder case that has stunned Bengaluru, a 24-year-old software engineer has been arrested for allegedly murdering her parents and younger sister with the help of her live-in partner. The gruesome crime, which police believe was triggered by family disputes over a secret relationship and mounting debt, took place at an apartment in the city's Seegehalli area.

The victims were identified as Somasundar (52), his wife Muthulakshmi (48), and their younger daughter Supriya (19). All three sustained multiple stab injuries and succumbed to excessive blood loss.

The accused, M. Shwetha, the elder daughter of the family, was arrested from Puducherry following an extensive manhunt launched by Bengaluru police. Her boyfriend, J. Kenneth, who allegedly participated in the murders, remains absconding.

According to investigators, Shwetha and Kenneth, both engineering graduates and former classmates, had been in a live-in relationship for over a year. Police said the couple had concealed the relationship from their families and were living together in a rented apartment at Sai Green Apartment in Dhamanika Layout, Seegehalli, under the jurisdiction of the KR Puram police station.

Debt Dispute Turned Deadly

Police revealed that Shwetha had allegedly accumulated debts exceeding ₹30 lakh, and repeated bank notices had begun reaching her family's residence in Marathahalli. The mounting financial burden had become a source of frequent arguments between Shwetha and her parents.

Investigators said Muthulakshmi visited the couple's apartment on Sunday June 21 evening after receiving notices regarding the loans. Somasundar and Supriya reportedly arrived at the flat the following day.

During discussions about the debt and Shwetha's future, a heated argument allegedly broke out. Police suspect that Shwetha and Kenneth attacked Muthulakshmi first, killing her with a sharp-edged weapon. They then allegedly cleaned bloodstains from the apartment before waiting for the arrival of the remaining family members.

When Supriya entered the apartment later, she was allegedly restrained by Shwetha while Kenneth repeatedly stabbed her. Somasundar was subsequently attacked with the same weapon.

Despite suffering severe injuries, Somasundar reportedly managed to flee the apartment and reach the staircase, where neighbours later found him bleeding profusely. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Muthulakshmi and Supriya were declared dead on arrival.

Chilling Details Emerge

Police officials said the victims had suffered an unusually high number of stab wounds.

"There were at least 50 stab injuries on the bodies," an investigating officer said.

Neighbours reported hearing screams around 10 p.m., prompting them to alert authorities. CCTV footage from the apartment complex allegedly captured Shwetha and Kenneth fleeing the scene shortly after the attack.

According to police, the couple climbed out through a balcony, reached the parking area and escaped on a two-wheeler.

Dying Declaration and Investigation

Investigators said Somasundar, before succumbing to his injuries, provided crucial information regarding his daughter's financial troubles.

"In his dying declaration, Somasundar told us about Shwetha's unpaid loans. He wanted her to return home temporarily and later marry Kenneth," a police officer said.

Police have formed multiple teams to trace Kenneth and establish the exact sequence of events. Authorities are examining CCTV footage, mobile phone records and forensic evidence to determine whether the murders were premeditated.

Officials also revealed that Kenneth's family was unaware of his relationship with Shwetha. He had reportedly told his parents that he was living and working in Hyderabad.

A murder case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
