Hyderabad, Telangana, INDIA: A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife following prolonged marital disputes fuelled by suspicions about her character and frequent visits to her parental home, police said.

The accused, identified as Sulaiman Sayeed alias Suleman, a resident of Kishan Bagh, was arrested by the Bahadurpura Police in connection with the murder of his wife, Nishad Fatima (30).

According to investigators, the couple had been facing serious marital discord for a considerable period. Police said several attempts at counselling and mediation, including proceedings before a Lok Adalat, failed to resolve their differences. Despite these interventions, the accused allegedly continued to subject his wife to physical and mental harassment.

Police stated that Sulaiman frequently suspected his wife's character and often objected to her visits to her mother's house, leading to recurring arguments and escalating tensions within the family.

The incident occurred on the night of June 7. Following another dispute, the accused allegedly concealed a kitchen knife and waited for an opportunity to attack. Investigators said that when Nishad Fatima was alone and asleep at their residence, he allegedly slit her throat, killing her on the spot.

After committing the crime, Sulaiman allegedly attempted to destroy evidence by disposing of the couple's mobile phones before fleeing the scene.

Based on a complaint, the Bahadurpura Police registered a case and launched an intensive investigation. Through technical analysis, field intelligence and sustained tracking efforts, investigators were able to identify and apprehend the accused within days of the murder.

The case was solved by a team led by Detective Inspector V. Madhan Lal and Sub-Inspector G. Ambedkar, along with personnel from Bahadurpura Police Station, under the guidance of ACP M.A. Javeed of Falaknuma Division and the supervision of senior police officers.

Rajendranagar Zone DCP S. Sreenivas commended the investigating team for the swift detection of the case and the prompt arrest of the accused.

Further investigation is underway.
