Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly strangling his live-in partner to death following a heated argument at their rented residence in Bengaluru's Malleswaram area.
The accused, identified as Sharath, a water tanker driver originally from Sakleshpur in Karnataka's Hassan district, had been living with the victim, 20-year-old Anusha, for the past six months. According to police, the couple had met through Instagram about a year ago and gradually developed a close relationship before moving in together.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of June 13. Police said the couple allegedly consumed alcohol before getting into an argument over personal and family-related issues. During the altercation, Sharath allegedly strangled Anusha to death.
The crime came to light two days later when Sharath reportedly approached an advocate and disclosed the incident. The advocate subsequently informed the police, prompting a team from the Seshadripuram Police Station to rush to the scene and conduct an inspection.
"The accused and the victim met on Instagram about a year ago and became close. They moved in together about six months ago. On Saturday night, both allegedly consumed liquor and got into a quarrel. During the argument, the accused strangled the woman," said S. Balakrishna, Inspector of Sheshadripuram Police Station.
Police registered a murder case and arrested Sharath shortly after receiving the information. Anusha's body was sent to KC General Hospital in Malleswaram for a post-mortem examination and was later handed over to her family following the completion of legal formalities.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the killing and are recording statements from relatives, neighbours and other potential witnesses. The accused remains in police custody and is being interrogated as part of the ongoing investigation.
