Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA: A 30-year-old man was allegedly tortured, electrocuted and poisoned to death by his wife, her lover and two accomplices in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district after he objected to her extramarital affair, police said.
The accused — identified as Aanchal, her lover Ankit, Aanchal’s sister Shikha and Shikha’s boyfriend Ajay Diwakar — have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. A case has been registered against them under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The victim, Pawan Thakur, a resident of Kundanpur in the Majhola police station area, was originally from Mainathar. He had married Aanchal six years ago and the couple has a young daughter.
According to police, Aanchal had allegedly been involved in an illicit relationship with Ankit, a relative referred to as Pawan’s nephew, for nearly two years. Pawan had reportedly opposed the relationship and repeatedly asked his wife to end it.
Police said Aanchal then conspired with the three co-accused to eliminate her husband. The plot was allegedly hatched at her maternal home, where she lured Pawan by calling him over the phone.
As soon as he arrived, the four accused allegedly overpowered him and attempted to force poison into his body. When he resisted, they tied him up, assaulted him and administered repeated electric shocks for nearly three hours, police said.
Investigators said the accused later succeeded in forcing a toxic substance into Pawan’s body, resulting in his death. In an attempt to pass off the murder as suicide, the accused allegedly pushed the body down a staircase and informed neighbours that Pawan had died after consuming poison and falling.
Following recovery of the body, police sent it for postmortem examination. The report revealed nine injury marks on the victim’s body and confirmed the presence of poison, exposing the alleged conspiracy.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Satpal Antil said all four accused were arrested based on the postmortem findings and subsequent investigation.
Family members of the victim claimed that Pawan had earlier expressed fears about his safety. According to relatives, he had informed his sister nearly three months ago that he suspected his life was in danger.
Police said further investigation in the case is underway.
