Mehsana, Gujarat, INDIA: A suspected case of suicide in Gujarat’s Vadnagar has unravelled a chilling double murder, with police recovering skeletal remains of a woman and a child buried in a shallow grave inside a house in Shahpur village.
The case came to light after Girish Babu Parmar, a diamond polisher, allegedly died by suicide on May 3 by jumping from the fourth floor of the GMERS Vadnagar Civil Hospital. Initially treated as a suicide, the case took a dramatic turn when police recovered a handwritten note from Parmar’s pocket.
According to investigators, the note contained a confession in which Parmar claimed he had killed his wife, Priyanka (29), and their two-year-old daughter, Pari, several months earlier. He allegedly stated that both he and his wife were struggling with mental health issues and expressed remorse for his actions before taking his own life.
Acting on the information, police teams visited Parmar’s residence in Shahpur village on May 4. During a search of the premises, officials identified a suspicious patch in the courtyard where tiles were missing. In the presence of an executive magistrate, the area was excavated, leading to the recovery of two highly decomposed bodies buried at a depth of approximately three feet.
Police believe the remains are those of Priyanka and her daughter, who had been missing since September 18, 2025. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and DNA analysis will be conducted to confirm their identities.
The disappearance had earlier raised concerns among Priyanka’s family. Her grandfather, Raman Amtha Yogi (75), who had raised her, had reportedly been searching for her for months. He alleged that Parmar gave evasive responses whenever questioned about their whereabouts and refused to approach the police. Frustrated, Yogi filed a missing person complaint in April this year, prompting an investigation.
Police said Parmar had been called in for questioning in connection with the case and was expected to record his statement shortly before his death. Investigators believe he may have taken the extreme step fearing that the truth would be exposed.
The couple, who had married four years ago in a love marriage, had twin daughters. While one child lived with them, the other has been staying with a relative and is currently the only surviving member of the immediate family.
A case of murder has been registered against Parmar based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family. Authorities are also probing whether any other individuals may have been involved in the crime.
Further investigation is underway.
