Ahmedabad, Gujarat, INDIA: A 31-year-old man was allegedly lured to an accused’s house on the pretext of settling a minor dispute and was brutally stabbed to death in Sanathal village of Ahmedabad district on Sunday May 10 night.

The deceased has been identified as Devendrasinh Chauhan, a resident of Sanathal village. The incident occurred around 8 pm in the Thakorvas area and is believed to have stemmed from a seemingly trivial argument that took place earlier the same day at a wedding function in Santej village of Gandhinagar district.

According to the Changodar Police, Devendrasinh had attended the wedding along with his friends in an SUV. After the ceremony, he reportedly asked Bharat Thakor to accompany him to the location where his vehicle was parked on the outskirts of the village.

Police said Bharat allegedly refused the request, leading to a heated verbal altercation between the two men. Although the dispute appeared to have ended at the venue, investigators believe Bharat harboured resentment and later plotted an attack in retaliation.

The complaint was lodged by Jagmohansinh Chauhan, a cousin of the deceased. In his statement to the police, he said Bharat Thakor repeatedly called Devendrasinh later in the evening and invited him to his residence in Thakorvas, claiming he wanted to resolve the disagreement amicably.

Trusting the assurance of a compromise, Devendrasinh went to Bharat’s house accompanied by his friends, including Karan Thakor and another acquaintance.

However, as soon as Devendrasinh entered the house, Bharat Thakor and Chehar Thakor allegedly overpowered him, pinned him to the ground and repeatedly stabbed him in the chest and other parts of the body.

The complaint further alleges that several family members of Bharat joined in the assault, kicking and beating Devendrasinh while the attack was underway.

Jagmohansinh said that when he tried to intervene and rescue his cousin, Bharat allegedly turned on him and attacked him with a knife, causing minor injuries.

In a dramatic detail mentioned in the complaint, Jagmohansinh stated that he grabbed Bharat by the hair in an attempt to pull him away from the victim, causing Bharat’s wig to come off near the doorway. Despite this, Bharat allegedly continued stabbing Devendrasinh relentlessly.

Hearing the victim’s screams, local residents rushed to the spot. By the time villagers gathered outside the house, the accused and other family members had fled.

An ambulance was summoned immediately, but medical personnel declared Devendrasinh dead at the scene.

The police have arrested the main accused and registered a case of murder and assault. Further investigation is underway to determine the role of the other family members allegedly involved in the attack.

As a precautionary measure, additional police personnel have been deployed in Sanathal village to maintain law and order. Officials said the situation remains peaceful and under control.

Investigators are continuing to examine the crime scene and record statements of witnesses to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal assault.
