Hisar, Haryana, INDIA: What began as a missing person case in Haryana’s Fatehabad district has now been solved as a murder, with police arresting the victim’s wife and her alleged lover for the crime.

Naseeb Kumar, a resident of Sadhanwas village in the Jakhal area, had been missing since March 2. A complaint was filed the following day by his elder brother, Raghunath Kumar, prompting a police investigation.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jai Bhagwan, suspicion arose during the probe, leading to the detention and questioning of Naseeb’s wife, Pooja, and her associate, Shravan Kumar. During interrogation, the duo allegedly confessed to killing him.

Police said Naseeb, a daily-wage labourer, had been married to Pooja for 25 years, and the couple had three children. Investigators revealed that Naseeb allegedly subjected his wife to repeated physical abuse under the influence of alcohol and had also threatened to upload videos of the assaults on social media.

Amid the alleged domestic violence, Pooja reportedly developed an extramarital relationship with Shravan Kumar, a resident of the same locality in Vyasa Colony. The two then allegedly conspired to eliminate Naseeb.

On the night of the murder, the accused are believed to have administered sedative pills to Naseeb before strangling him while he was asleep. To destroy evidence, they allegedly tied stones to the body and dumped it into the Bhakra Canal.

“The investigation, supported by technical evidence, confirmed that the case was not merely a disappearance but a planned murder,” DSP Jai Bhagwan said.

The victim’s body is yet to be recovered. Both accused have been remanded to police custody as efforts continue to retrieve the body and gather further evidence in the case.
