Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, INDIA: A wedding celebration in Gwalior district turned violent on Tuesday March 31 night after a dispute over liquor escalated into an assault, leaving several members of the groom’s family injured.
According to police, the incident took place in Patai village under the Aron police station limits, where local resident Mahesh Jatav was getting married. Trouble began when a group of neighbours allegedly demanded that liquor be arranged during the wedding ceremony.
When the groom refused to provide or finance alcohol, an argument broke out, which quickly spiralled into a physical confrontation. The situation soon turned chaotic, with the accused allegedly attacking the groom and his family members.
The groom’s mother, Sheela, said the violence erupted shortly after the bride arrived and wedding rituals were underway. She alleged that a few neighbours approached her son demanding money to purchase liquor. When he refused, they allegedly assaulted him along with other family members.
She further claimed that when she tried to intervene, the attackers also beat her, her husband, and even the bride.
Police officials confirmed that some family members sustained injuries in the attack. The accused also allegedly looted cash and household items during the incident.
City Superintendent of Police Manish Yadav stated that a dispute over liquor demand triggered the violence. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
