Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA: A birthday celebration inside a gym in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr spiralled into a chilling triple murder after what police initially described as a minor dispute over smearing cake on the birthday boy’s face. The incident, which occurred late on the night of April 25 in Khurja Nagar, has since triggered multiple arrests, police encounters, suspension of four policemen and an intensified manhunt for absconding accused.

According to investigators, the party was being held at RJS Gym on Subhash Road for gym trainer Jeetu Saini. Friends and acquaintances had gathered for the celebration, cutting cake and smearing it on one another in a routine birthday ritual. However, the atmosphere turned tense when Jeetu allegedly objected to cake being forcibly applied to his face. A heated verbal altercation followed between two groups present at the gym.

Though those present initially managed to pacify the matter and one group dispersed, the dispute did not end there. Police said the confrontation reignited after a phone call exchange later in the night, eventually escalating into a premeditated armed assault.

Family members of the victims alleged that Jeetu Saini and his associates returned to the scene armed with multiple licensed and illegal firearms. Without giving the victims any chance to react, they allegedly opened indiscriminate fire.

Three members of the same family — Amardeep Saini (30), Manish Saini (28) and Akash Saini (18) — were shot multiple times and collapsed on the spot. They were rushed to hospital in critical condition but doctors declared all three dead on arrival.

Sanjay Saini, a relative of the deceased, said he had received a call from the accused group shortly after the initial argument, claiming his brother was abusing them. Believing the matter to be minor, he told them he would resolve it the next morning as he was attending a wedding. Instead, the accused allegedly armed themselves and summoned the victims back before launching the deadly firing.

Police sources now suspect that the violence may have stemmed not merely from the cake-smearing spat but also from an underlying ego clash and simmering rivalry between local youth groups associated with the gym. Investigators are also examining whether old enmity and area dominance played a role in the massacre.

As outrage mounted, Bulandshahr Police registered a case against ten named accused and one unidentified suspect. Jeetu Saini was identified as the prime accused and remains absconding, while teams were deployed across neighbouring districts to track the fugitives. CCTV footage, forensic samples and witness testimonies were collected as part of the probe.

The investigation soon saw dramatic developments.

One accused, Mayank, was taken by police on Monday April 27 to recover an illegal firearm allegedly hidden under a flyover. Officials said he tried to escape custody, retrieved the weapon and opened fire at the police team. In retaliatory firing, he sustained a bullet injury to the leg and was arrested. Police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol and an empty cartridge from him.

In a second such operation during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, two more wanted accused — Rinku Saini and Bharat Saini — were taken to Munda Khera canal for recovery of the gym’s CCTV DVR. Police claimed the duo also attempted to flee after retrieving hidden firearms and shot at the escorting team. Both were injured in retaliatory firing and subsequently arrested. The two carried a reward of ₹50,000 each.

With these arrests, the total number of accused held in the case has risen to five, while police continue to search for the remaining absconders.

The brutal killings and delayed crackdown have also led to administrative action. Bulandshahr Senior Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Singh suspended four policemen, including Khurja Nagar SHO Prem Chand Sharma, citing negligence, weak intelligence gathering and failure to monitor criminal activity in the area despite rising tensions.

The shocking crime has sparked widespread public anger, with many questioning how a seemingly trivial birthday altercation inside a gym transformed into a planned execution involving multiple firearms. Online reactions have described the incident as a disturbing example of how fragile egos, easy weapon access and unchecked local rivalries can turn ordinary social gatherings into scenes of mass violence.

Police officials said raids are continuing and assured that all accused involved in the Bulandshahr birthday party triple murder will be arrested soon
