Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: In a tragic incident that has shocked residents of a north Bengaluru housing complex, a techie couple from Telangana died within minutes of each other in an apparent case of suicide, police said on Monday March 30.

The deceased have been identified as Bhanu Chander Reddy Kunta (32) and his wife Bibi Shaziya Siraj (31), who had been living at an apartment in Bhartiya City under the jurisdiction of Kothanur police station. The couple had moved to Bengaluru in August last year.

According to police, Kunta was found hanging inside a locked room in their flat. Siraj, who had recently returned from a trip to Hyderabad to visit her mother, grew suspicious after he failed to respond to repeated knocks. She alerted neighbours and security personnel, following which the door was forcibly opened and Kunta was found dead.

Moments after discovering her husband’s body, Siraj allegedly ran out of the apartment and jumped from the 17th floor of the residential building. She died on the spot before any help could reach her.

Police have registered two separate cases of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Preliminary investigations suggest that Kunta may have died by suicide, and Siraj took the extreme step shortly after.

Officials said Kunta had previously been working in the United States but lost his job and returned to India in June last year. He was reportedly unemployed and undergoing treatment for mental health issues. Siraj, who was employed with a multinational company, had recently taken up a new role in Bengaluru, which allegedly involved increased work pressure.

Investigators also recovered a purported suicide note from the residence. Police said Kunta had limited contact with his family following an inter-caste marriage.

The couple had been married for around nine years and had been residing in the apartment for over a year.

Police said multiple angles, including mental health concerns, relationship stress and emotional distress, are being examined. The exact sequence of events will be confirmed after post-mortem reports and further investigation.
