Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: A 45-year-old jeep mechanic was allegedly beaten to death in front of his two young children following a dispute in the Wilson Garden area of Bengaluru on Sunday March 15 night.

The victim, identified as Rasheed Pasha (also referred to as Rasheed Ahmed), was attacked near Bada Makan Road around 9 pm. According to police, three men assaulted him with a bat and bamboo sticks, leaving him critically injured.

Police said Pasha had been working as a mechanic in the area and had recently begun constructing a small shop. Earlier on Sunday morning, he had carried out moulding work at the construction site.

Investigators said the accused noticed the construction and approached him demanding ₹50,000 as “mamool”, a local term used for protection money. When Pasha refused to pay, a heated argument reportedly broke out.

According to police, the men left the area after the initial confrontation but returned later in the evening and again demanded the money. When Pasha refused once more, they allegedly attacked him in a sustained assault using a bat and bamboo sticks.

The brutal attack took place in full view of Pasha’s two children, who were with him at the time. Local residents rushed the severely injured man to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. His body has been shifted to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police from the Wilson Garden Police Station initially registered a murder case and launched a search operation for the suspects.

During the investigation, officers arrested three accused — Parvez, Afrid and Munawwar. According to investigators, the altercation appears to have stemmed from a trivial dispute over the moulding work rather than an organised extortion demand.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Division) Akshay Machindra visited the scene and confirmed that a medico-legal case report had been received from the hospital.

Police said further investigation is underway, while additional personnel were deployed in the area as a precaution after the incident triggered tension among local residents.
