Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly setting his partner and her parents on fire after she refused to give him her scooter in north Bengaluru, police said on Monday March 9.


The accused, identified as Panduranga, a resident of Nandini Layout, allegedly attacked Sumalatha (27), a domestic help, and her parents at their residence in Tarabanahalli. All three sustained burn injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, police said.


According to investigators, Panduranga had gone to Sumalatha’s house and demanded that she hand over her two-wheeler to him. When she refused, the two got into a heated argument. Her parents intervened in an attempt to calm the situation.


Police said that during the altercation, Panduranga allegedly poured petrol on the three from a bottle and set them on fire in a fit of rage before fleeing the spot.


Neighbours rushed the injured victims to a nearby hospital where they are receiving treatment.


A case has been registered at the Soladevanahalli police station under sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).


The accused was arrested on Sunday March 8 and further investigation is underway, police said.
