New Delhi, INDIA: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Staff of Delhi Police has apprehended seven minors, aged between 15 and 17, for their alleged involvement in a series of motorcycle thefts and robberies carried out to finance a birthday trip to Manali.
Police said the juveniles were active in Dwarka and adjoining areas, targeting unsuspecting victims at isolated locations. Their plan, investigators revealed, was to sell the stolen motorcycles and raise around ₹50,000 for a birthday celebration scheduled in early April.
Three stolen motorcycles, including two Bajaj Pulsar bikes and one TVS Raider, have been recovered from their possession.
According to officials, the group first stole a parked Pulsar motorcycle from Ajay Park in Najafgarh on January 21. Subsequently, on March 8, three of the minors allegedly used the stolen bike to rob a man, identified as Rajiv Ranjan, at knifepoint near the Kakrola drain in Dwarka.
A week later, on March 15, four of the accused targeted another victim, 22-year-old Nikhil, on the Kakrola drain service lane. Nikhil told police that he was returning home with his nephew after refuelling his bike when they were intercepted by four individuals riding two motorcycles.
“They threatened and assaulted us before robbing my motorcycle and ₹2,000 in cash,” Nikhil stated in his complaint.
Following the incident, an FIR (No. 82/26) was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Dwarka North police station.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh said investigators scanned footage from nearly 500 CCTV cameras within a 10-kilometre radius of the crime scene, which led to the identification and subsequent apprehension of the suspects.
“The motive behind the crimes was to arrange funds for a birthday celebration trip at a hill station,” the officer added.
