Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA: A 16-year-old girl was abducted and brutally murdered in Lucknow’s Para area after two young men, allegedly angered over her communicating with both of them, plotted to kill her. Police have arrested four accused in connection with the crime.

The prime accused have been identified as Anshu Gautam alias Lucky (20) and Ashiq Yadav (21), along with their associates Rishu Yadav (20) and Vaibhav Singh Rajput (23). All four are local residents and were working in a private factory in the city.

According to police, the victim had been in regular contact with both Anshu and Ashiq through social media and phone calls. Both men believed she was romantically involved with them. When they discovered that she was in touch with both, they allegedly felt betrayed and decided to “teach her a lesson”.

“Angered by what they perceived as deceit, the accused conspired to eliminate the girl,” said a senior police officer.

On January 13, Anshu reportedly called the victim and asked her to meet him. When she reached the designated spot, she was forcibly dragged into an SUV where Ashiq and the two other accused were waiting.

Police said the group assaulted the girl inside the moving vehicle and strangled her to death. In an attempt to destroy evidence and make the murder appear as a suicide, the accused later placed her body on railway tracks in Sarojininagar, about 12 km from the abduction site. The body was subsequently run over by a train, severing her head.

The victim’s family filed a missing person’s complaint on January 16, following which a kidnapping case was registered. As the investigation progressed and evidence emerged, police added charges of murder and destruction of evidence.

Based on call detail records, technical surveillance and CCTV footage, police traced and arrested the accused on January 26. The SUV used in the crime was also seized, and the victim’s mobile phone, which had been smashed to erase digital evidence, was recovered.

DCP (West Zone) Vishwajeet Srivastava said, “Anshu lured the girl to the meeting spot. She was forcibly taken in the vehicle, where the accused killed her. The body was dumped on railway tracks to mislead investigators.”

Station House Officer Suresh Singh said that sections related to kidnapping with intent to murder, murder, destruction of evidence, and common intention have been invoked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

During interrogation, Anshu allegedly confessed that he was in a relationship with the victim and that tensions arose after learning she was also in contact with his close friend Ashiq.

Police said further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and gather additional evidence before filing the charge sheet.
