Gurugram, Haryana, INDIA: Police have solved a chilling blind-murder case involving a 32-year-old woman who went missing during an evening outing and was later found buried near a power grid building in Sector 29. The investigation, which began as a missing-person complaint, quickly unravelled a disturbing tale of betrayal, sudden violence and a hurried attempt to hide the crime.
The deceased, identified as Zaida alias Jabeda Khatun, hailed from Darrang district in Assam and lived in a rented accommodation in Sukhrali, Sector 18, with a friend. According to police, she left her room around 12.10 am on November 27, telling her roommate she would return in two hours. When her friend tried calling her an hour and a half later, Zaida’s phone was switched off. She never came back.
Alarmed, the roommate filed a missing-person report at the Sector 18 police station on December 1. An FIR followed, setting off an intensive search operation.
Body Found in Sector 29
On Sunday December 7 morning, police recovered a woman’s body buried beneath a layer of soil in a vacant plot opposite the power grid building in Sector 29. The body was soon identified as Zaida’s.
Investigators traced her last known movements to a man she had been in contact with. Acting swiftly, they picked up Sanjay Kumar, 26, an air-conditioner mechanic from Rajasthan’s Kotputli, who lived in Sushant Lok Phase-I with his cousin.
Confession Reveals the Sequence of Events
During interrogation, Sanjay confessed to killing Zaida. Police said the two had known each other for more than two years, and Zaida often visited his room.
According to police spokesperson Sandeep Turan, Zaida met Sanjay on the night of November 26 and went to his rented accommodation, where the two became intimate. When she prepared to leave, an argument broke out — reportedly because she refused further physical involvement.
“In a fit of rage, the accused took her on his motorcycle to a secluded plot opposite the Sector-29 power grid, strangulated her between 2 am and 2.30 am, and buried the body before fleeing,” Turan said.
Case Solved Within Hours
Once the body was discovered, police moved quickly. Sanjay was arrested the same day, and officers said they are now verifying his statements and examining evidence from the crime scene. Police said further investigation is underway to determine whether anyone else was involved or had knowledge of the incident.
