Kolhapur, Maharashtra, INDIA: A 48-year-old man was arrested on Friday December 19 for allegedly murdering his elderly parents at Hupari town in Hatkanangale taluka of Kolhapur district, police said. The accused, Sunil Narayan Bhosale, surrendered at the Hupari police station shortly after the incident.

The victims were identified as Narayan Ganpatrao Bhosale (78) and his wife Vijaymala Narayan Bhosale (70), residents of Mahavir Nagar. The double murder took place in the early hours of Friday, around 5.30 am, while the couple was at home.

According to the police, Sunil had been having frequent arguments with his parents over the division of family property for several months. On Friday morning, he allegedly attacked his father while he was asleep, striking him repeatedly on the head with a wooden stick and a stone. He then broke a windowpane, took a piece of glass, and slit his father’s wrist, resulting in his death on the spot.

A short while later, when Vijaymala entered the house, the accused allegedly attacked her with the same glass shard and slit her wrist, causing fatal injuries, police said.

After committing the murders, Sunil reportedly walked out of the house calmly, greeted neighbours, and went directly to the Hupari police station, where he confessed to the crime. One of his brothers, who lives outside Hupari, later lodged a formal complaint.

“Preliminary investigation suggests the murders were not committed in a fit of rage but were planned. The accused was under mental stress due to ongoing family disputes,” said Police Inspector Nigappa Choukhande of Hupari police station.

A forensic team examined the crime scene and collected weapons, glass fragments, fingerprints, and blood samples, which have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis. The bodies were sent to CPR Hospital in Kolhapur for post-mortem examination.

Police said further investigation is underway to establish the exact motive behind the crime and determine additional legal action.
