Man burns wife alive before children, injures daughter during rescue attempt

Hyderabad, Telangana, INDIA: In a horrific incident reported from the Nallakunta area of Hyderabad, a man allegedly set his wife on fire in front of their children and pushed his daughter into the flames when she tried to rescue her mother. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, December 24, following an ongoing marital dispute.

The accused has been identified as Venkatesh, while the deceased woman is Triveni. According to police, Venkatesh poured a flammable substance on Triveni and set her ablaze during a heated argument at their residence. When their daughter rushed in to save her mother, the accused allegedly pushed her towards the fire, causing burn injuries.

After committing the crime, Venkatesh fled the scene. Neighbours, alerted by the children’s screams, rushed to the house and shifted Triveni to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.

As per reports, the couple originally hailed from Huzurabad in Nalgonda district and had a love marriage. They were living in Hyderabad with their two children. Police said Venkatesh had grown suspicious of Triveni, leading to frequent quarrels and harassment.

Due to the continuous abuse, Triveni had earlier left the house and stayed with her mother. She returned after Venkatesh assured her that he would change his behaviour, police added.

A case was registered and a manhunt was launched to trace the accused. Venkatesh was arrested on Thursday and booked under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder. He was expected to be produced before the court on Friday.

The daughter, who sustained minor burn injuries, managed to escape from the room during the incident and is currently undergoing treatment. Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
