Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA: A shocking incident in Meerut’s Lohiyanagar area triggered widespread outrage on Friday December 5 after CCTV footage revealed policemen dumping an unidentified body outside a stationery shop in the dead of night.
Shopkeepers discovered the body early on December 5 at the shutter of a stationery shop owned by Ronit Bainsla. While trying to understand how it got there, locals reviewed CCTV footage—only to find that a group of policemen had quietly placed the corpse at the spot around 1:40 am before leaving.
The video quickly went viral on social media, prompting anger over what many described as “police apathy and misconduct.”
Responding to the public outcry, Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Vipin Tada suspended L-Block outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Jitendra Kumar and Constable Rajesh, and terminated the services of Home Guard Rohtash. An internal probe under SP City Ayush Vikram Singh has been initiated.
According to preliminary information, police personnel from the Nauchanadi jurisdiction had reportedly found the unidentified youth’s body in the L-Block outpost area late Thursday night. To avoid handling postmortem formalities, they allegedly transferred the body into an e-rickshaw and shifted it to a different jurisdiction before abandoning it outside Bainsla’s shop.
CCTV cameras at the Shastri Nagar L-Block crossing recorded two uniformed men arriving on a motorcycle, accompanied by an e-rickshaw carrying the body, around 1:50 am. They were seen placing the body on the pavement and leaving shortly after.
Bainsla, who owns the shop where the body was found, said, “I saw the body right at the shutter when I opened my shop in the morning. Other shopkeepers gathered, and we informed the police. Later, when CCTV footage was checked, it became clear that men in police uniform had dumped the body there.”
The body has been sent for postmortem, and the identity of the youth is yet to be established. Police say further action will follow based on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
