Banda, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA: A case of suspected dowry death has been reported from Banda district, where a newly married woman was found hanging under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws’ residence. The shocking incident has sparked outrage after the woman’s family alleged that she was murdered and her death staged as a suicide.
According to reports, the woman had been married for just eight months. Her father told police that he rushed to her in-laws’ house upon receiving distressing news, only to find her hanging from a noose — with her feet reportedly touching the floor. He alleged that his daughter had been killed by her husband’s family and later hung to make it appear as if she had taken her own life.
“I had taken loans and spent beyond my means to meet their dowry demands,” the grieving father said. “But despite that, they killed my daughter and hung her.”
After being alerted, a police team reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered under Section 304B (dowry death) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code based on the complaint filed by the victim’s father.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mavis Tok confirmed that the police and forensic field units inspected the scene and collected crucial evidence. “A case has been registered following the family’s allegations. Further legal proceedings are underway. The investigation will proceed based on post-mortem and forensic findings,” the ASP said.
The victim’s family has demanded strict action against the accused, alleging continuous harassment over dowry since the marriage. Police have assured a fair and thorough investigation, stating that all those found responsible will face legal consequences.
The incident has once again highlighted the persistent menace of dowry-related violence in parts of Uttar Pradesh, despite strict laws and repeated awareness campaigns.
