Gurugram, Haryana, INDIA: 26-year-old delivery executive is battling for his life after being savagely attacked by around a dozen armed men in broad daylight in Sector 10 on Saturday November 22.
The victim, Abhishek, a resident of Khandsa Mandi in Sector 37, sustained at least 15 deep injuries, including one that nearly severed his left leg. He is currently on ventilator support at a private hospital in Manesar after multiple emergency surgeries.
The assault took place around 1.30 pm when Abhishek had just stepped out of a warehouse and boarded his motorcycle to begin deliveries. According to police, the attackers — armed with axes, rods and sticks — arrived in a car and on five motorcycles, all with their faces covered. They first rammed Abhishek’s motorcycle with their vehicle before launching a frenzied attack.
Doctors later informed the police that Abhishek’s left leg was “virtually severed” due to repeated axe blows. He also suffered major injuries to his shoulder and back. Investigators described the wounds as “15 to 20 deep cuts,” inflicted even after the victim fell unconscious.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was carried out as revenge targeting Abhishek’s younger brother, Ritesh, 22. A week earlier, Ritesh had intervened to rescue their neighbour, Vinit, 19, who was being assaulted by the same group in Shakti Park colony in Sector 10A. The suspects, who reportedly had previous enmity with Vinit, allegedly shifted their hostility to Ritesh after the incident.
Police believe the assailants originally intended to target Ritesh, who works with Abhishek at the same warehouse, but turned on Abhishek when they were unable to locate him. CCTV footage submitted by Ritesh shows the attackers striking Abhishek’s left leg repeatedly “with the motive to chop it off,” he said.
Family members rushed Abhishek to the Sector 10A civil hospital in an autorickshaw after being alerted by warehouse staff. Due to the severity of his injuries and heavy blood loss, he was later shifted to a private hospital in Manesar, where he remains in critical condition.
DCP (West) Karan Goel confirmed that a “petty dispute” between the families escalated into the brutal assault. “The intent to murder is clear. Identities of all the assailants have been established, and raids are underway to arrest them,” he said.
Based on the statement of Abhishek’s uncle, an FIR has been registered at Sector 10 police station under sections 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 191(3) (rioting armed with deadly weapons), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation). Abhishek remains unfit to give a statement due to his critical condition.
