New Delhi, INDIA: A 20-year-old man who claimed he “wanted to do something big” allegedly tied a local resident to a truck and bludgeoned him to death with a brick in Northwest Delhi’s Wazirpur area, police said on Wednesday October 29, 2025.
The accused, identified as Amit alias Pawwa, was arrested for the murder of 37-year-old Daya Kishan, both residents of the same locality. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh, Amit, a habitual drinker, killed the victim, who was found in a heavily intoxicated state.
The gruesome incident took place on October 20, near a metro pillar in Wazirpur. Police were informed about a man found tied to a truck and bleeding profusely from the head. The victim was rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. He was later identified as Daya Kishan.
“With no eyewitnesses or immediate clues, the case was initially treated as a blind murder,” the DCP said. “A team examined CCTV footage from the area, which showed the victim wandering alone in an inebriated condition before the attack.”
After extensive field inquiries, police received a tip-off about Amit, a local youth known for his drinking habit. Acting on inputs shared by residents, multiple raids were conducted, and the accused was eventually arrested.
“During interrogation, Amit confessed to the murder and detailed the sequence of events,” Singh said. “He claimed he wanted to do something big to make a name for himself. On spotting the victim in a drunken state, he decided to kill him.”
In a fit of rage, Amit allegedly tied Daya Kishan to a truck with a chunni (scarf) and repeatedly struck his head with a brick, killing him on the spot. The accused later led police to the recovery of the victim’s wallet, which contained his Aadhaar card, PAN card, and other belongings.
Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
