Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA: In a shocking incident that has stunned Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, a 25-year-old man was brutally shot dead by his own friend in just 11 seconds — as another accomplice filmed the cold-blooded murder and later uploaded the video on social media.
The victim, identified as Adil alias Rehan, a resident of Radhna Wali Gali in the Lisari Gate area, worked as a clothes seller. His bullet-riddled body was recovered near a tubewell in a forested area of Narhada village, under the Lohiannagar police station limits, on Wednesday morning.
The 11-Second Execution
The chilling 11-second video that went viral online shows Adil lying on the ground while his friend stands over him, firing three bullets into his chest in rapid succession. As the shots ring out, a voice — believed to be that of an accomplice filming the murder — can be heard urging the shooter to “drop it.” Moments later, the two assailants flee the scene on a motorcycle.
The video, which quickly spread across social media platforms, sparked outrage and fear among local residents. Authorities confirmed that the man in the footage was indeed Adil. Police, however, are still probing whether the victim was already unconscious or dead before the video was recorded.
First ‘Filmed Murder’ in Meerut
According to police, this is the first known case in Meerut where a murder has been deliberately filmed and circulated online. The motive behind both the killing and the viral posting remains unclear.
Adil’s family has lodged a complaint naming six individuals as accused. Police have launched an intensive manhunt to trace and apprehend them.
Police Investigation and Statement
Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Vipin Tada confirmed that the murder was carried out by one of Adil’s friends, while another filmed the act. “An FIR has been registered, and a detailed probe is underway. We are identifying all suspects and action will be taken as per law,” he said.
Dr. Tada noted that the “deliberate filming and circulation of such a heinous act” raise serious concerns. “We are also investigating whether this was an isolated personal dispute or if any organised gang is attempting to use such acts to openly challenge law enforcement,” he added.
Digital Trail Under Scanner
The police cyber cell is examining how and when the video was uploaded and shared online. Investigators are working to determine if the accused sought to create panic or gain notoriety through the viral circulation of the murder clip.
Officials said the shocking case underscores the disturbing trend of violent crimes being recorded and broadcast on digital platforms to instill fear or boast of impunity.
Law and Order Concerns
The murder has triggered widespread concern in Meerut, already on edge after several recent violent crimes, including the high-profile case of Muskaan Rastogi, who along with her lover, allegedly murdered her husband and sealed his chopped remains in a cement-filled drum.
Local residents have demanded stronger police surveillance and swift justice for Adil’s killing, calling it “a terrifying reflection of growing lawlessness and digital glorification of crime.”
Police have deployed multiple teams to track down the suspects, and further developments in the case are awaited.
