Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, INDIA: In a shocking act of violence, a 40-year-old man was hacked to death in full public view — and in front of his two young sons — allegedly over an old business dispute. The gruesome murder took place near the Silk Mill Colony area, close to the railway station in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city, on Wednesday October 1, 2025, evening.
The victim, identified as Syed Imran Shafiq, had taken his three-year-old and 13-year-old sons out when a car intercepted the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in. According to police, five to six men stepped out of the vehicle, forcibly dragged Shafiq and his children onto the street, and launched a vicious assault on him in front of the horrified boys.
Eyewitnesses and investigators said Shafiq tried to defend himself and even attempted to snatch the weapons from his attackers, but was quickly overpowered. In a display of extreme brutality, the assailants chopped off several of his fingers, slashed his right wrist, and struck him repeatedly on the head and neck. They then stabbed him multiple times, leaving his mutilated body under a foot overbridge before fleeing the scene.
Local residents alerted the police, who rushed to the spot but found Shafiq dead from multiple deep injuries. His traumatized sons were rescued and handed over to relatives.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the killing was the result of an old rivalry related to a gas business dispute. Acting swiftly, a special team from the City Chowk Police Station launched a manhunt and arrested three suspects within nine hours of the murder.
The prime accused has been identified as Mujeeb alias Mujeeb Don, a history-sheeter with several criminal cases registered against him. The other two arrested are his brother Saddam Hussain Moinuddin and brother-in-law Sheikh Irfan Sheikh Suleman. Police said more arrests are likely as efforts continue to trace other accomplices.
A senior officer described the murder as one of the most gruesome and cold-blooded attacks the city has witnessed in recent times. “The victim was targeted in front of his small children. We are investigating the business dispute angle and checking CCTV footage to identify all the accused,” the officer said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder, criminal conspiracy, and unlawful assembly.
