Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: A 20-year-old man was killed after being pushed under a moving train by his roommates in a suspected case of jealousy over a woman. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday (September 7) near Doddanekundi, within the Byappanahalli railway police limits.

The victim, identified as Ismail Patawegar, a native of Vijayapura district, was sharing a paying guest accommodation in Byappanahalli with the accused, Puneeth and Pratap, both from Chitradurga. All three worked as drivers for a private company.

Police said tensions arose after Puneeth introduced his girlfriend to Ismail, who allegedly began speaking to her over the phone. The frequent communication angered Puneeth and reportedly led to repeated quarrels.

On the night of the incident, the trio had been drinking near the railway tracks around 3.30 am when an argument broke out. In the heat of the moment, Puneeth and Pratap allegedly pushed Ismail into the path of an oncoming train, killing him instantly. The accused then attempted to pass off the death as an accident by placing his body on the tracks.

Railway staff discovered the mangled body hours later and alerted the police. Initial signs of a struggle — including bloodstains found several feet away from the tracks — raised suspicions, prompting investigators to treat the case as homicide rather than an accidental death.

During questioning, police found that Ismail’s last call was to one of the accused. Confronted with the evidence, Puneeth reportedly confessed, admitting that jealousy over his girlfriend’s conversations with Ismail was the motive.

While Puneeth has been arrested, police said Pratap is absconding and efforts are underway to trace him.
