Vellore, Tamil Nadu, INDIA: In a dramatic incident caught on CCTV, a four-year-old boy was kidnapped in broad daylight from Gudiyatham town in Vellore district on Wednesday September 24, before being rescued within three hours.
Police said Venu, a software engineer residing on Pavala Street in Ammanpettai, had picked up his son Yogesh from school around 12.30 pm and was standing near the gate of his house when a white sedan with a Karnataka registration number pulled up.
CCTV footage shows a helmeted man stepping out of the vehicle, throwing chilli powder into Venu’s eyes, and forcibly snatching the child from his arms. Despite Venu’s desperate attempt to resist, the kidnappers pushed him aside and fled in the car.
Venu immediately lodged a complaint with Gudiyatham Police, following which multiple special teams were formed.
“We quickly accessed CCTV footage and alerted all check posts in and around the district. Realising they could not escape, the abductors abandoned the child and fled,” said Vellore Superintendent of Police A. Myilvaganan.
The boy was later spotted by villagers near Madhanur and handed over to Palikonda police, who safely reunited him with his parents.
Police have confirmed that the vehicle carried fake number plates. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the kidnappers.
