Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: A 36-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife in front of their two young children in Dadri, Gautam Buddha Nagar district, before calling the police to confess to the crime.
The accused, identified as Kishan Sharma, a daily-wage labourer originally from Bulandshahr, had been living with his wife Chanchal (32) and their children — aged six and seven — in a rented single-room house in Dadri since their marriage in 2016.
According to investigators, Kishan had long suspected Chanchal of having an affair, leading to frequent clashes between the couple. The tension escalated in the early hours of Sunday. Around 5 am, after a heated argument, Kishan allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and slit his wife’s throat, also inflicting multiple stab wounds on her shoulder.
The incident unfolded in front of the couple’s children, who were left deeply traumatised. Soon after, Kishan dialled the police emergency helpline 112 and chillingly informed officers: “I have killed my wife and am sitting with her body and my children.”
A team from Dadri police station rushed to the scene and found Kishan seated beside Chanchal’s body, while the children stood at a distance, visibly shaken. SHO Arvind Kumar confirmed that the accused confessed immediately upon police arrival. The children told officers that their father had also beaten their mother during the altercation.
Police said Kishan had repeatedly confronted Chanchal over her alleged interactions with another man, which had worsened marital discord.
A case of murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Dadri police station, and the accused has been taken into custody.
The children have been placed under care as counselling support is being arranged for them, police added.
