Pune, Maharashtra, INDIA: A late-night horror movie screening in Chinchwad turned violent on Friday September 5 after a dispute over “spoilers” led to the assault of a 29-year-old techie and his wife inside an INOX multiplex.

The software professional, accompanied by his wife and sister, was watching The Conjuring: Last Rites when a man seated behind them allegedly began narrating upcoming scenes to his wife, spoiling the suspense. The victim asked him to stop, but the argument escalated after the interval.

According to the complaint, the accused abused the techie before dragging him by the collar, punching, and kicking him in the face and stomach. When the victim’s wife intervened, the accused and his wife allegedly assaulted her as well.

The injured couple received treatment at a nearby hospital and later filed a complaint with Chinchwad police on Sunday September 7.

Senior police inspector Bangar confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused, a resident of Vallabhnagar, and his wife under Sections 117 (grievous hurt), 115 (causing hurt), and 352 (provoking breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

“Both were arrested within 24 hours, and further investigation is underway,” he said.

The incident occurred on the day The Conjuring: Last Rites—the latest installment of the popular Hollywood horror franchise—was released in India. The film drew large crowds for its late-night shows, continuing the supernatural saga of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
