Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: A 14-year-old boy has accused his mother of physically assaulting him and inflicting serious injuries after he intervened in a heated quarrel between his parents.
Acting on the boy’s complaint, Avalahally police have registered a case against his mother under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 118 (causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The incident occurred on the night of September 25.
According to the boy, a Class IX student of a private school, he was in his room with his younger brother when he heard his parents engaged in a loud argument around 8.30 pm. Disturbed by the noise, he asked them to stop fighting. His intervention allegedly enraged his mother, who pushed him to the ground, causing an injury to his left hand.
The boy, who is currently receiving treatment at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital, told police from his hospital bed that his mother repeatedly assaulted him with slippers and even scratched his chest and back when he tried to defend himself. He further alleged that his mother later attempted to attack him with a small knife, but his father managed to intervene and rush him to the hospital.
The boy also told police that two days earlier, on September 23, his mother had beaten him, forcing him to seek outpatient treatment at the same hospital.
Police have served a notice to the boy’s mother, directing her to appear before the investigating officer. A senior police officer said preliminary inquiries suggested that the couple had longstanding marital disputes, and the boy may have sided with his father during the altercation.
“We will record the mother’s statement and also re-examine the boy’s version of events. Counselling will be arranged for both the mother and the child as part of the investigation,” the officer said
