Salem, Tamil Nadu, INDIA: A 23-year-old man has been arrested for brutally murdering his father and his father’s live-in partner, dismembering their bodies, and dumping the remains in two lakes in Magudanchavadi, Salem district.

The accused, identified as Akash, allegedly killed his father Palanisamy (47), a daily wage labourer, and Jayalakshmi (38), following revelations of prolonged sexual harassment. Police said Jayalakshmi’s daughter, who has also been arrested, recently confided to Akash that Palanisamy had been abusing her for the past four years with her mother’s knowledge.

Palanisamy had separated from his wife Jayanti several years ago and subsequently began living with Jayalakshmi and her daughter. Akash, who works at a butcher shop, also stayed with them. Investigations revealed that despite knowing about the abuse, Jayalakshmi had taken no action against Palanisamy.

Enraged on learning this, Akash allegedly attacked both Palanisamy and Jayalakshmi with a butcher’s knife inside their home on August 17. He then dismembered the bodies, placed the parts into two sacks, and disposed of them in Thalaiyur lake and Egapuram lake.

As the victims were reported missing, villagers grew suspicious when Akash gave evasive replies about their whereabouts. On Thursday August 21, he reportedly confessed to the crime to his uncle, who informed the police.

Magudanchavadi police recovered the sacks containing the dismembered remains from the lakes and sent them for post-mortem at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital in Salem.

Akash and Jayalakshmi’s daughter have both been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Police said further investigations are underway to ascertain whether additional motives were involved in the killings.
