Sangli, Maharashtra, INDIA: A 24-year-old man allegedly killed his childhood friend during a drunken altercation in the Kupwad industrial area of Sangli late Wednesday August 6 night.
The accused, identified as Pratap Rajendra Chavan, reportedly smashed his friend’s head with a stone after an argument over money escalated into violence.
According to police, Chavan and the deceased, Mayur Sachin Sathe (24), had been consuming alcohol together for most of the day. The situation turned deadly when Sathe allegedly attempted to take money from Chavan’s pocket without his consent.
The act triggered a heated argument between the two, culminating in Chavan picking up a stone and striking Sathe on the head with fatal force.
Sathe died on the spot from a deep head injury.
Chavan later surrendered at the Kupwad police station, where he confessed to the crime. Based on his statement and preliminary findings, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway to determine the full sequence of events.
Police officials said more details will be shared once the investigation progresses.
