Chennai, Tamil Nadu, INDIA: A 14-year-old Class IX student was stabbed and injured by a stalker who forced his way into her house in Pallavaram on Friday, police said.
The accused, identified as Selvam (25) from Tiruvannamalai and working as a house painter, allegedly attacked the girl after she rejected his advances.
Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed to the spot, prompting Selvam to panic and slit his own throat before collapsing.
Both the girl and the accused were rushed by locals to the government hospital in Chromepet, where doctors provided first aid. Hospital authorities alerted police, and a team from Pallavaram recorded the survivor’s statement.
Based on a complaint from her parents, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and for attempted murder.
Selvam was arrested and later produced before a magistrate.
Considering the severity of his injuries, he was admitted to the convicts’ ward under judicial custody, police added.
