Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, INDIA: A shocking case of domestic violence and financial dispute has surfaced from Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, where a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was allegedly tied up, assaulted, and robbed by his estranged wife and two sons. The incident, which occurred in Chandwani village under Pichhore police station limits, was caught on camera and widely circulated on social media.

The victim has been identified as Pratipal Singh Yadav (62), who retired as DSP from Sheopur district on March 31, 2025. According to police, Yadav was allegedly attacked by his wife, Maya Yadav, and their sons, Akash and Abhas, during a dispute over his retirement benefits.

The Incident

On August 20, Maya and her sons reportedly travelled from Jhansi to Chandwani, where Yadav has been residing alone for the past 15 years, following a marital separation. They allegedly demanded a share of his retirement money, including the ₹20 lakh received from his Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), while another ₹33 lakh in gratuity and other dues remain pending.

When Yadav refused, the family allegedly tied his hands and legs with ropes, snatched his mobile phone and ATM card, and attempted to forcibly take him to Jhansi. In the video that went viral, one son can be seen sitting on Yadav’s chest while the other restrains his limbs. Villagers, alerted by his cries for help, rushed to the spot and intervened, rescuing the retired officer from further assault.

Complaint and Counter-Claim

Yadav later approached police with a complaint, seeking the return of his belongings. However, he has so far refrained from registering an FIR against his sons, saying he did not want to "spoil their future."

Meanwhile, Maya Yadav has dismissed the allegations, claiming that her husband is "mentally unstable" and that she and her sons were only trying to take him home for his own well-being.

Police Response

Confirming the incident, Pichhore DSP said: "Recently retired DSP Pratipal Singh was assaulted by his wife Maya Yadav and sons Akash and Abhas. They tied him up and snatched his mobile and ATM card. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway."

The matter has triggered outrage, not only because of the violence against a former police officer but also due to the disturbing visuals of a family turning against its patriarch for money.
