Faridabad, Haryana, INDIA: A shocking case of domestic violence and betrayal has come to light in Greater Faridabad, where a property dealer was allegedly murdered by his wife and son following a financial dispute. Police have arrested the accused duo and recovered the victim’s body.
The deceased has been identified as Harveer Singh Malik (42), a resident of Terra Society in Sector 75. He had been missing since July 11, and his body was later recovered from a deserted spot near Siddhadata Ashram in Surajkund.
The Murder Plot
According to police investigations and the complaint filed by Harveer’s brother, Kulveer, the family frequently quarrelled over money. Harveer had reportedly kept ₹7 lakh in cash at home for business purposes. However, his wife, Sangeeta (39), and son, Sahil (20), allegedly spent the money, which led to a major confrontation on the night of July 10.
Enraged over the dispute, Sangeeta and Sahil, along with Sangeeta’s sister Jyoti (also under investigation), allegedly conspired to kill Harveer.
On the night of July 11, Harveer was asleep in his bedroom when the accused tried to get him to open the door. When he did not respond, they allegedly entered the room through a window and attacked him. Sahil is believed to have struck Harveer multiple times on the head with a pressure cooker, killing him instantly. Blood spattered across the room during the assault.
Disposal of the Body
After the murder, Sangeeta allegedly took charge of disposing of the body. Using her experience as a housekeeping supervisor at the ESIC Hospital, she guided her son in wrapping the body in multiple layers of plastic sheets, four bedsheets, and a quilt, before hiding it under the bed for several hours.
The following night, Sahil borrowed a car from a friend under the pretext of shifting houses. Together, the mother-son duo transported the body and dumped it in a drain near Surajkund.
To erase evidence, Sangeeta meticulously cleaned the flat. She reportedly used chemical agents and even hired a professional deep-cleaning service through an app to sanitize the floors, walls, and furniture to remove bloodstains.
Cover-Up Attempt
In the days following the murder, Sangeeta allegedly tried to mislead both relatives and neighbors. She visited her in-laws’ home in Ajronda the very next day, claiming that Harveer had gone abroad with friends. For nearly ten days, she stayed with them, repeating the same story whenever questioned.
On August 14, she escalated the deception by sending a WhatsApp message from Harveer’s phone, claiming that he had committed a serious crime and was leaving the city. This raised suspicion in Harveer’s brother, Kulveer, who then filed a missing person complaint at the BPTP Police Station.
Police Investigation and Arrest
During the investigation, police summoned Sangeeta and Sahil for questioning, but their phones were switched off, further raising suspicions. Acting swiftly, police detained both on the night of August 20.
During interrogation, the two confessed to the crime and led the police to the spot where they had dumped Harveer’s body. The remains were subsequently recovered.
“Both the wife and son have confessed to killing Harveer and disposing of his body in a deserted spot near Sidhdata Ashram. We are also investigating the role of Sangeeta’s sister Jyoti in the crime,” said SHO Arvind Kumar of BPTP Police Station.
Case Registered
A case of murder has been registered against Sangeeta and Sahil, while Jyoti’s involvement is still under investigation. Police have seized forensic evidence from the flat and are verifying whether professional cleaners unknowingly destroyed crucial clues.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the upscale residential locality, with neighbors expressing disbelief over the gruesome nature of the crime committed within a family.
