Faridabad, Haryana, INDIA: A 29-year-old man was arrested on Thursday August 14 for allegedly murdering his girlfriend’s four-year-old son after suspecting that she had met her estranged husband, police said.
The accused, identified as Neeraj Kumar, a building material supplier and resident of Sanjay Enclave, had been living with the 32-year-old woman and her son for the past year. The woman, who is separated from her husband, has three daughters and a son. While the daughters stay with the father, she and her son had moved in with Kumar.
According to police, the woman left Kumar’s house with her son three days ago following a quarrel. She returned on Wednesday August 13 night, after which she asked Kumar for money to pay an autorickshaw driver. This led to another heated argument.
“Neeraj Kumar suspected that the woman had met her husband or another male friend during her absence. In anger, he snatched the child from her arms, forced her out of the house, and interrogated the boy about where his mother had gone. When the child could not answer clearly, Kumar throttled him to death,” said Yashpal Yadav, public relations officer of Faridabad Police.
Investigators said Kumar kept the body in the room overnight and on Thursday morning told neighbours the child was unwell and unresponsive. However, the neighbours grew suspicious and alerted the police control room.
Police teams reached the spot and found injury marks on the boy’s neck, indicating foul play. During questioning, Kumar confessed to killing the child in a fit of rage.
A case of murder has been registered against him at Saran Police Station on the basis of the mother’s complaint. The boy’s body was handed over to her after a post-mortem examination.
