Sasaram, Bihar, INDIA: A 20-year-old woman was shot dead by her lover, who later died by suicide, at a private guesthouse in Bihar’s Rohtas district on August 26. Police said the incident was triggered by the woman’s refusal to marry the accused due to caste differences and social stigma.

The deceased have been identified as Kajal Kumari, daughter of Umesh Sharma from Dalelganj, and Jackie Nat, a resident of Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh.

According to police, Jackie reached Aarav Banquet Hall Guest House around 1 pm. About an hour later, Kajal arrived at the venue. Investigators said the two had spoken with the hotel manager regarding wedding arrangements before moving upstairs. Moments later, Kajal was seen running downstairs, telling people she had been shot. Soon after, another gunshot was heard.

When staff rushed to the room, they found Jackie dead with a gunshot wound, while Kajal was critically injured. She was first taken to a local hospital and later referred to Varanasi, where she succumbed to her injuries. Police recovered a country-made pistol and empty cartridge from the spot.

Kajal’s mother, Gayatri Devi, alleged that Jackie had been threatening her daughter to marry him. “He used to say, ‘If she cannot be mine, she cannot be with anyone else.’ My daughter refused because he belonged to a different caste,” she said.

Meanwhile, Jackie’s father, Paras Nat, accused the hotel of conspiracy, demanding a thorough probe.

Confirming the incident, SDPO (Sasaram) Dilip Kumar said, “Initial investigation suggests the case is related to a love affair. However, to uncover the real reason behind the incident, we are questioning family members and friends.”
