Beed, Maharashtra, INDIA: A horrifying case of substance abuse turned deadly in Parli city, Beed district, after a man allegedly attacked his family with a knife under the influence of glue fumes.

Police said the accused, identified as Arbaaz Ramzan Qureshi, assaulted his grandmother, Zubeda Qureshi, and his parents on Friday August 8, after they refused to give him money—suspected to be for purchasing glue to inhale.

Zubeda Qureshi died on the spot, while both parents were rushed to a government hospital in Ambajogai, where they remain in critical condition.

According to investigators, Qureshi was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident. He has since been taken into custody.

Officials warn that glue inhalation—common among some young adults and minors—poses severe health risks. Toluene, a toxic chemical in adhesives and paint thinners, can dissolve in brain tissue, causing hallucinations, neurological damage, hearing loss, and harm to the liver and kidneys.

Police are continuing their investigation.
