Penukonda, Andhra Pradesh, INDIA: Tragedy struck a family in Somendepalli mandal of Sathya Sai district when a newlywed bride allegedly died by suicide just hours after her wedding ceremony.

The incident occurred on the night of Monday, August 4. The 22-year-old bride, identified as Harishitha, a resident of Somendepalli, had married Nagendra from Dibburipalli village in Karnataka earlier that day in a lavish ceremony attended by friends and relatives.

According to police sources, the couple was at the bride’s home where arrangements were underway for the traditional “first night” ceremony. Nagendra had reportedly stepped out to purchase sweets, and upon returning, found the room locked from inside. When there was no response to his repeated knocks, family members broke open the door and discovered Harishitha unresponsive.

She was immediately rushed to the Penukonda Government Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The shocking death has cast a shadow of grief over both families, who were celebrating just hours earlier. Photographs from the wedding reportedly show no signs of distress or discomfort on the part of the bride.

While the exact reason behind Harishitha’s drastic step remains unclear, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. The body has been sent for postmortem, and both families are being questioned to ascertain the circumstances that may have led to the incident.

Authorities have not ruled out any possibilities and are awaiting the autopsy report to determine the cause of death.

Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
