Karad, Maharashtra, INDIA: A joyride meant for a social media reel turned into a near-fatal tragedy at Karad’s famed Table Point, as a car stunt went horribly wrong, sending a 20-year-old youth plummeting 300 feet into a gorge.
The incident occurred on Wednesday July 9 evening at the picturesque but perilously unguarded Table Point, located on the Patan-Sadavaghapur road in the Gujarwadi area of Karad. The victim, Sahil Anil Jadhav, a resident of Gholeshwar, had driven to the spot with four friends to film car stunts against the stunning backdrop.
According to eyewitnesses and a viral video of the incident, Sahil attempted a reverse spin stunt in a Hyundai Venue while his friends recorded the act on camera. But the vehicle lost traction, skidded, and veered off the cliff's edge, plummeting into a 300-foot gorge below. The video ends with the sound of panic and a shocked exclamation as the car disappears from view.
Miraculously, Sahil survived the fall but sustained severe injuries. He was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to Sahyadri Hospital, where he remains under critical care. Authorities have confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident.
The tragic event has reignited concerns about safety at Table Point, a popular tourist destination known for its panoramic valley views and inverted waterfall. Despite attracting hundreds of visitors each week, the location remains dangerously under-equipped, with no protective railings, signage, or regular police presence.
Residents and local activists have long raised alarm over the lack of basic safety infrastructure. "This is not the first accident here, and it won’t be the last unless the authorities act," said a local shopkeeper near the spot. "We need guardrails, signage, and constant patrolling—immediately."
With the rise in social media-driven stunts and thrill-seeking behaviour at scenic locations, citizens and safety advocates are urging swift action. The incident serves as a grim reminder that the pursuit of viral fame should never come at the cost of lives—and that authorities cannot afford to look the other way when it comes to public safety
