Samastipur, Bihar, INDIA: In a chilling case of betrayal and murder, a 30-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was found brutally killed in his home after reportedly confronting his wife over an alleged affair with their children’s tuition teacher. The incident occurred in Laguniya Raghukanth village under Mufassil police station limits, triggering widespread outrage across the district.

The victim, identified as Sonu Kumar, was discovered lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries inside his residence early Friday July 25 morning. Police say he had returned late the previous night and was allegedly killed following a violent altercation.

According to Sanjay Kumar Pandey, a senior officer of Mufassil Police, "There were visible injury marks on the victim’s body. Initial findings point toward a domestic dispute that escalated fatally after the husband discovered his wife’s illicit relationship."

Troubled Marriage and a Sinister Turn

Sonu Kumar had been married to Smita Devi (also known as Smita Jha) for the past five years. Sources close to the investigation revealed that their relationship had been strained from the start, with frequent arguments and Smita’s recurring demands to return to her maternal home in Madho Vishanpur.

A village panchayat had previously intervened to mediate their disputes, resulting in a written agreement between the couple. However, tensions flared again after a local tutor named Hariom Kumar, who resides near Smita’s maternal home, began frequenting their house to teach the couple’s children.

Sonu’s father, Tuntun Jha, alleged that the situation took a dark turn after Sonu caught Smita in a compromising position with Hariom. "My son warned the tutor not to come back after that confrontation. But Hariom returned later when Sonu’s elder brother called him to tutor his children," he told police.

Murder and Aftermath

On the night of the incident, Sonu had gone out for work in his auto-rickshaw. He never returned. His lifeless body was found the next morning, with blood and mud smeared across his clothes. The scene bore signs of a struggle, prompting police to suspect foul play.

Smita was immediately taken into custody for questioning. However, she has denied all allegations, claiming she found her husband dead after waking up. "He came home at around 1 am and started arguing like he usually did after drinking. I later saw blood on him and called others," she stated.

Manhunt for Tutor, Forensic Probe On

Meanwhile, the key suspect, Hariom Kumar, is currently absconding. Authorities have launched an intensive manhunt to track him down. A forensic team has examined the crime scene, and a post-mortem has been conducted.

Senior officer Pandey added, "We are piecing together the events of that night based on forensic evidence, witness accounts, and digital records. All angles are being explored, including the possibility of involvement by additional persons."

The case has sent shockwaves across Samastipur and has once again highlighted the dark underbelly of domestic discord, infidelity, and violence.

The investigation is ongoing.
