Mumbai, Maharashtra, INDIA: In a chilling case of betrayal and premeditated murder, Mumbai police have arrested a woman and her lover in connection with the killing of her husband in the Antop Hill area of the city. The crime, reportedly driven by an extramarital affair, has sent shockwaves through the Bengali Pura neighbourhood.

The victim, Ismail Ali Jamal Ali Shaikh, 36, was allegedly murdered in the early hours of Tuesday May 27 by his wife, Sumaya Shaikh, 26, and her partner, Jabbar Shaikh, a local jeweller.

According to police sources, the crime was triggered by a confrontation between the couple after Ismail discovered his wife’s affair. The dispute escalated around 3 am on May 27, when Sumaya reportedly summoned Jabbar to their residence. In a calculated attack, Sumaya is said to have restrained her husband’s legs while Jabbar fatally stabbed him in the neck multiple times with a sharp weapon. Sumaya allegedly followed up the assault by stabbing her husband with a kitchen knife.

In an attempt to mislead authorities, Sumaya dragged her husband’s bloodied body outside and claimed he had been killed by an unknown assailant. However, inconsistencies in her statement during police questioning raised suspicions. Further investigation led to her arrest, and Jabbar, who initially fled the scene, was subsequently tracked down and taken into custody.

Law enforcement officials have recovered the murder weapon and confirmed that forensic teams have examined the crime scene for additional evidence. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Antop Hill Police Station, and both accused remain in police custody as the investigation continues.

This incident adds to a growing list of domestic crimes involving intimate partner violence, prompting renewed concern over spousal safety and infidelity-related homicides in urban India.
